Embracing Nearly Four Decades of Faith, Resilience, and Compassion

Dear Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries (SWGSM) Community,

2023 Fall Newsletter - FelibertoAs we stand on the edge of celebrating nearly four decades of unwavering commitment to our mission, Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries shines brightly as a beacon of hope, resilience, and faith in action. Over the years, we’ve confronted economic challenges, weathered storms, and navigated through global events, including the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout it all, our dedication to serving those in need has remained steadfast.

As a faith-based organization of Disciples of Christ Christian Churches rooted in the teachings of compassion and service, SWGSM stands as a testament to the power of unity and purpose. Our dedicated staff, volunteers, and donors, coming from diverse backgrounds and walks of life, embody the very essence of our mission. Their unyielding commitment, passion, and unwavering desire to serve others drive us forward with integrity and compassion at our core.

2023 Fall Newsletter - VolunteersAt its heart, SWGSM is a place where neighbors connect, where volunteers make new friendships, and where every individual who walks through our doors finds a safe, welcoming, and joyful environment. Most importantly, we aspire to transform strangers in need into cherished friends.

One cornerstone of our mission is Mike’s Kids, a program that plays a pivotal role in helping the less fortunate during the holiday season. As Christmas approaches, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the North Texas Area Disciples of Christ Christian Churches, who fill banana boxes with new and gently used clothes and toys. These gifts are distributed to “the poorest of the poor” in our area and to an orphanage just across the border in Mexico. Your generosity and dedication bring smiles to those who might otherwise go without a gift during this special time of year.

2023 Fall Newsletter - Mike's Kids TruckloadOur commitment to immigrants remains unwavering as we adapt our programs to meet evolving needs. From literacy classes in Spanish to English language acquisition through Rosetta Stone, we provide essential resources to empower individuals on their journey. For those on the path to U.S. citizenship, we offer guidance in government, current events, test-taking strategies, and English proficiency. By nurturing interview skills and building confidence, we help immigrants become proud U.S. citizens who contribute to our community.

2023 Fall Newsletter - Serguey and Dr. CarlaIn this heartwarming photo, Serguey and Dr. Carla are celebrating the culmination of their journey towards US Citizenship, having spent five years in this great nation. Serguey and Dr. Carla’s commitment to making a positive impact doesn’t stop here; she’s now dedicated to guiding and inspiring others on their path to obtaining their own citizenship, continuing the legacy of opportunity, and belonging in the United States.

As the director of Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries, I can attest that leading SWGSM has been a labor of love. Our dedicated board has implemented robust policies, a sound financial system, and a well- functioning budgeting process to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective management of our diverse service. We understand the importance of operating SWGSM as a responsible business while upholding the principles of social justice.

SWGSM remains steadfast in adhering to local, state, and federal laws, embracing the views of social justice. By doing so, we not only provide the best support to those we serve but also create a nurturing environment for our dedicated employees, volunteers, and donors. Your partnership has laid a solid foundation for the future of SWGSM, ensuring that our mission continues to positively impact lives.

To our donors, we extend our deepest gratitude for your generous contributions, whether in monetary or material form. Your support is the life force of our organization, enabling us to meet the growing needs of those who depend on our assistance. Your contributions make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve, and for that, we are profoundly thankful for your partnership in our mission.
