We send greetings for a joyous Thanksgiving!
When you gather with your family, faith-family, or friend-family, we hope you will find yourself filled with faith and love. And we are assured always that our Lord is with us in these gatherings.
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)
As you are giving thanks, consider how you might extend grace to our faith-brothers and sisters who are navigating a difficult journey to safety. SWGSM works day in and day out with people who are seeking safety, while encountering countless new things and many challenges. A young Anne Frank wrote that “No one has ever become poor by giving.” Our faith teaches us the same.
Thanksgiving in the Valley
At SWGSM, we work hard to make sure our brothers and sisters have access to food, not only at Thanksgiving, but year-round. We particularly focus on distributing beans and rice, which form a healthy diet, are shelf-stable, and can be delivered easily. For our Central American brothers and sisters, it is also a loved staple.
Though this is intense work at Thanksgiving, it is also work that we do year-round as hunger does not arrive only on holidays. Please help nourish families by donating to SWGSM. $50 will buy almost 100 lbs. of food, enough to sustain many families.
Each year we deliver thousands of pounds of beans and rice to those in need. This team is unloading a delivery of beans and rice in October.
Click here to donate quickly and safely online, or you may send a check to: P.O. Box 273 Los Fresnos , TX 78566. Every donation matters.
We were delighted to welcome Charlie and Ruth Wallace, pastor of First Christian Church of Little Rock, Arkansas, and a group they organized to witness at the border and learn more about the challenges facing our brothers and sisters who are seeking refuge here. Regional Minister Dr. Nadine Burton was part of this group who spent October 26-30 at SWGSM’s Compasión Campus. Pastors Feliberto and Joel Pereira introduced the group to SWGSM’s mission and to other work in support of refugees in the Rio Grande Valley.
Thank you for spending this time with us! It was a joy to get to know you and be with you. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in planning a Mission Group to visit.
We know that holidays can be hard, too. They can inspire memories or feelings of loneliness. When you are gathered – or when you are alone – remember to invite the Lord to walk with you. He is walking with you always, though sometimes it helps to pause and listen so we can pay more attention to his presence. We send you our love and gratitude.
