Thanks-Giving Blessings

Nuestra Querida Familia en Dios,

Our Beloved Family in God,

Greetings to you and your family! We pray for the safety of each of you and that today is filled with great joy and gratitude.

On this day set aside for thanks-giving, we are reminded of the hospitality and ties of chosen family.

That first Thanksgiving it was the Native Americans and those they saved from starvation, the New Americans. They celebrated together and with great gratitude for survival that was only possible together. They were dependent and interdependent. And it is that way also with the radical hospitality of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Sometimes we receive, sometimes we are the conduit of God’s love to others. Most times we realize that it is a relationship we have together as family and chosen family, the One Family of God.

Today, we are reminded of the saying, “If there is no room at your table, maybe it’s time to build a larger table.”

Today we are doing that!

Normally we have a large gathering at the Pereira house, usually around twenty people. But this year it won’t hold us all. We have invited our friends and collaborators at La Posada Providencia to bring over all the people at their campus, and the Lutheran start-up congregation in Los Fresnos has people in need of food and friendship. Counting staff, refugees, and asylum seekers, we are expecting around sixty at our table(s), from 12 countries.

But we could be wrong. We could need a bigger table. And we will build it together.

And we will leave a seat open for Jesus, and one for you. You are our Good Samaritan Family. We will be remembering you and praying for all the blessings we have made possible together with God.

We are living in humble gratitude to God for your outpouring of love, support, concern, and compassion. ¡Muchísimas Gracias!

God Bless Us One and All,
